Recipients of the 2010 SCF-OC Scholarship Award
September 1, 2010
The Sustainable Foundation of Orange County, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to community development and supporting public service minded youth, is proud to announce the recipients of this year's scholarship award. High school seniors from all over southern California were invited to apply for this scholarship.
The Scholarship Review Committee used a point system to evaluate each application. The assessment included categories such as the length of time commitment and leadership involvement in community activities; scholastic achievement with consideration of upward grade trend and difficulty of coursework; quality and stature of letters of recommendation; and how well the statement of purpose was executed taking into account motivation of future goals.
“We received many qualified applications, and it was very encouraging to see so many young students who had such high ambitions and passion to serve the community. The recipients of these awards all overcame unique hardships, achieved high scholastic marks and showed exceptional promise for future success in public sector. It was a tough decision.”
The top $1000 award went to Michelle Cho, a valedictorian at Sunny Hills High School and a student at UCLA this fall, where she will be studying anthropology. The two runner-up awards of $500 went to James Kim, an Oxford Academy graduate and a freshman at Colby College, and Ana Coria, a graduate of Fullerton High School and a freshman at UC Riverside in the fall.
The Sustainable Community Foundation of Orange County Scholarship is available every year during the academic spring semester. Application and scholarship information can be found at www.scf-oc.org.
SCF-OC would like to thank all of the scholarship applicants as well as the community for their support.
